Hello everyone! I'm Maria and I'm currently a junior who majoring in psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Being a part of a big family to having several different job experiences, I enjoy being around kids the most! I have paid experience with children beginning the summer of 2013 and every summer since. I've worked at a learning center, where I've been a teaching assistant in the 4 year old classroom (pre-K) and Kindergarten classroom. At times, I've assisted in the 3 year old classroom as well. In the last two summers and going for a third (this summer), I've been the head camp leader for the day-time summer camp that's a part of the learning center; the children range from 6 to 12 years of age - with groups of up to 30. I've gained a lot of experience from working with different age groups and parents alike. As a Read more TA, I've assisted in maintaining a structured schedule with child play and grade school preparation; and meal preparation was included. As a camp leader, I've made structured schedules that contained physical play, arts & crafts, and snacks/lunch times; with a period of relax time as well. In either position, I've cared for small groups on field trips and big activities as well. I love working with children and teenagers because I hope to be a psychologist for children & adolescents one day. Child development fascinates me because it's nurture and nature that shapes us into who we become. In the end, I want to be able to change the lives of children - that's my goal.
