For the past three summers I have worked at Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association as a camp counselor and seasonal programs and events. At NISRA, I have worked primarily with children with autism and have worked as their one-on-one aid. Besides working as a camp counselor for NISRA, I have worked as one-on-one camp counselor for a children with autism and down syndrome at my church's camp and at a community theatre camp. I have been babysitting for a child that has ADHD, is nonverbal and has cognitive delay for the past 3 years. During my senior year of high school I volunteered with the Life Skills program at my high school by coming in twice a week during my study hall and teaching, observing and serving as a one on one aid for a child with autism. At ISU, this is my third semester working as a tutor for Read more a woman from the Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization and do additional volunteer work with CIDSO. Furthermore, I do other volunteer work with CIDSO for individuals with down syndrome. Most importantly, I love working with children with special needs, especially individuals with autism. Not only do I have a strong passion to work with children that have disabilities, I have several years of experience. Also, I am pursuing a Special Education degree at Illinois State University, thus I am receiving an education focused on individuals with disabilities. I am very patient, kind, compassionate, caring. Moreover, I am professional, innovative, friendly and trustworthy. I want to be a caregiver because I want to increase my knowledge and experience with working with children that have special needs and I feel that babysitting your children would help me do so.
