I am 26 and I work in the mental health field, so I have had to gain years of experience with children. I spent a total of 4 months volunteering at a daycare and an elementary school in South Africa on two occasions. At the daycare, I spent 7 hours with infants and toddlers hand on hand. At the school, I worked with a fourth grade class as a teacher’s assistant. Along with that, I was a Camp Counselor at Mooseheart for one summer where I was in charge of a group of 14 kids and would be responsible for creating a weekly activity schedule and I would come up with games and fun outings and outdoor activities. Lastly, I spent a year as a Residential Counselor at Northern Illinois Academy and my job was to work one on one with children and teens from ages 8-21. I worked with Read more kids with aggression issues, mental health, or disabilities and I never loved a job more. I have babysat a number of times over the years for friends, but I make up for that in my experience with multiple kids in a variety of settings. My life is spent working with children and I love it that way. I was a waitress for 7 years as well and I have my associates of arts and am currently working on my Bachelors in Psych. I grew up with one older brother in a deaf parents household so I also know sign language which can help A LOT sometimes!
