I began my caregiving experience as soon as I could walk and talk. My older brother has severe autism, and with parents who both worked, he became my responsibility. We would cook, do laundry, and play together, As I grew older, I was hired by Clearbook in Arlington Heights, IL (2011) to provide care for my brother. It went beyond essentially babysitting him to helping provide an comfortable and educational environment in which he learned to do things for himself and when he needs to ask for help. He may not be able to get to a store himself, but he knows he needs to make a list of what he needs--and what those things could be, such as body wash, new socks, and a toothbrush-- and to ask for help getting those things. While working with my brother, I would also babysit for an old coworker of mine. He Read more had a nine year old daughter who loved to make crafts and read books. I would watch her for a few hours most Saturdays throughout 2014-2016. In addition to this experience, I have taken courses through Infinitec on fire safety and basic first aid, and am also certified by the AHA in CPR and first aid for both adults and children.
