Hello! My name is Michelle, and I am a graduate student at Indiana University studying Recreational Therapy. I have a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management from Kent State University. I am First Aid/CPR certified (valid until February 2019) and CPI certified (valid until September 2018). I currently work at a day care facility on campus with 1-year-old children. I have been an occasional babysitter/petsitter for the past 5 years, and have worked with children ranging from toddler to middle school ages. Most of my experience with kids has been obtained through school and work experience. I have volunteered in classrooms assisting children with disabilities. I have worked as a Head Summer Camp Counselor, where I directly cared for children and implemented activities with them. Additionally, I worked as the Assistant Director for a separate summer camp. My educational background and interests are very strongly based in recreational activities. I have Read more also completed coursework and obtained some job experience in working with people who have disabilities. My career goal is to become a Recreational Therapist and work with children to combat stress and anxiety. I have grown up with animals, and currently have a cat of my own. I've occasionally been a petsitter for family and friends to care for their cats or dogs while they were away. I love all animals, especially big dogs. A little more about me personally, I love the outdoors! I especially enjoy hiking and ice skating. I am originally from Northeast Ohio, so I am prepared to enjoy outdoor activities in all kinds of weather. I'm a huge fan of national parks, and have visited Yellowstone NP, Yosemite NP, Great Smoky Mountain NP, Rocky Mountain NP, Cuyahoga Valley NP, and Grand Teton NP. I have also traveled to Uganda, Africa and got to explore some of their beautiful national parks as well. I value the environment and do what I can to protect it. Most importantly, I really enjoy working with kids. My education has made me very interested in childhood development, because recreational activities and play contribute greatly to that development.
