I've always enjoyed working with children. While attending Indiana University in Bloomington, I volunteered at Circles Intiative Monroe County. It is a program that provides support groups for low- income families. There are different age groups that they work with and I had the chance to work with infants, toddlers, and children ages 6-10. The volunteers would watch the children while parents went to seminars or listened to guest speakers talk about how to get out of poverty. We helped with homework, played games, and have lessons on different aspects of life, for example the importance of school. I work at the childcare at the YMCA Ransburg part-time. I watch children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. I also watch children ages 2 yrs-5 yrs that attend the preschool there after their school day is finished. At the YMCA we have a schedule that we follow to ensure that Read more the kids are well engaged while the parents are away. My favorite part of the schedule is where we incorporate a time for exercise. I usually take the kids to the gym where they get to run, dance, and do reps of different exercises like push-ups, jumping jacks, sit ups, etc.
