I began babysitting during my teen years, as most people do. During my first year at Valparaiso University, I volunteered at Hilltop Neighborhood house. I enjoyed my time there so much that I applied for a student position and worked there for the next 3 years. Hilltop Neighborhood House is a non-profit daycare center, having children from infancy - 5 years-old. During my senior year at Valparaiso University, I was a mentor at Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative. I was placed in a classroom of 10 year olds, working with autistic children.
