I'm a mature theatre artist and educator that has missed working with young people while attaining my master's degree. As you can probably guess, I love engaging kids' imaginations! I enjoy crafts, listening to music and dancing, reading (I'm excellent at reading aloud), and playing pretend. I love listening to what children have to say. Plus I can keep two or three kids busy for ages with theatre games that require no props. I babysat when I was a teenager in Kokomo, IN. There, I was known for being a sitter who had fun interacting with children in a era when sitters often just sat...in front of MTV. Kids always looked forward to my coming back. Before coming to Purdue, I spent most of my adulthood in Providence, RI, where I started working in children's theatre in 2001. I have worked in after-school programs, public schools, homeless shelters, and institutional Read more settings teaching kids about performing, writing, directing, dance, and costume design. This gave me experience working with all kinds of children, age 5-18, some of whom had intellectual, developmental, behavioral, hearing and mobility disabilities. My clients included Oakland Beach School (Warwick Public Schools), VSA Arts Rhode Island, The Manton Avenue Project, Rhode Island School of Design Young Artist Summer Programs, Little Compton Community Center, and All Children's Theatre Ensemble. I believe in positive reinforcement of good behavior with praise. Collaborating with classroom teachers has made me very adaptable in implementing different systems of behavioral expectations and consequences, so I can adjust to the way your family functions. I'm really good at redirecting kids that have gone off track. Basically, I treat everyone around me with kindness and respect and expect others to do the same. **You should know that I'm a vegetarian, but will NOT try to foist my diet on your kids. I am perfectly comfortable ordering them a hamburger, putting together a bologna sandwich, or fixing a hot dog. However, I am not at all competent cooking meat products from scratch. **My pet comfort level is approximately 2-3 cats. No dogs, please. The little guy in the picture with me is my delightful nephew.
