Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about me! I am a newly Returned US Peace Corps Volunteer having completed my service in community health development from October 2012 - December 2014 in Ethiopia. Throughout my time in Ethiopia, I was engaged in many activities and programs focusing on youth development. In addition, as a member of my community I was very much involved in the community, which is largely governed by the philosophy that it takes a community to raise a child. That being said, I spent many mornings making pancakes and coloring with the children in my neighborhood! Prior to my volunteer service, I completed my undergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 2012, although I am originally from the Kansas City area. I have been very fortunate to work with really great families who I still keep in touch with today. I was employed and placed with two of the three main families I worked with through two nanny agencies, Chicago Nannies Inc. and College Nannies and Tutors in Overland Park. The other family I met through SitterCity. I worked for each family for 1-2 years. In addition, I have spent a lot of time caring for my 4-year-old niece. I plan to attend to graduate school in the upcoming year for a second degree in Nursing. I recently relocated to North Dallas to be closer to family. Prior to that, I spent a few months volunteering in Somaliland at a maternity hospital and was employed at a local hospital in the Kansas City area before that. I have my own transportation, I am a non-smoker, and I love pets if you have them! I am certified in Basic Life Support (CPR for healthcare providers) and I am also a certified as a Nursing Assistant (in the State of Kansas). I am happy to provide references upon request.
