I am a mother of five children, including one child with special learning needs. For 10 years, I homeschooled my own children before accepting my current position as a special education paraprofessional. For three years, I have worked with the most challenging students in the school helping them to reach their educational goals. This year I began working in a behavioral support classroom assist student with behavior challenges. I find my work to be rewarding and fun and value the trust and rapport I build with my students. I believe creating a positive relationship with my students is the key to helping them be successful. Additionally, I am also a senior in the Teacher Education Program at Fort Hays State University. Last spring, I applied for a competitive spot in a premier teaching training program being piloted by the university. I was fortunate enough to be one of only eight Read more students selected for this program due to not only my academic achievement but ability to demonstrate the "soft skills" the distinguish top educators. Next December, I will graduate with highest honors from Fort Hays with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in ESOL. I would love the opportunity to tutor children and work with them this summer to build skills and develop challenging educational opportunities.
