Lisa’s Bio

My name is Lisa Lynn Bachtle. I was born in White Bear Lake, Minnesota in June of 1980. I lived there until I was about six years old. I can still picture myself playing in Minnesota and having many great times. My family then moved to Texas for a few years until my dad asked for a transfer to another state, which is how I ended up in Kansas. I was in the middle of second grade when we moved here. I do miss being around other family members in Minnesota and also miss Texas, but also love Kansas.
My parents, Joan and Lanny, have been married for 45 years, and they have done a great job building a strong and loving family. I have an older sister Kris who has been married to Damien for 13 years. They have two girls Brooke 8, Amber 6 and a boy Derek 20 months. They live in Olathe, Kansas not far from our parents. I also have an older brother Mike who has been married for 9 years to Denise. They have two boys Colin 5, and Erick 3. I try to spend time with the kids each week. Sometimes, if it’s later at night, I go over and read a book to them and help put them to bed.
My parents moved my mom’s parents to Kansas five years ago, and a little later my aunt also moved here from Texas. Recently, my grandpa and aunt passed away but we are really close to my grandma. Our whole family goes to the same church. We have family dinners together all the time and go on trips as a family.
My parents have taught us some very good lessons in life, which has made me a very strong person. One of those lessons is if I want something I need to go out and work to earn it. Our whole family shares this work ethic, and not only are we all busy people, we enjoy staying busy. I am one that would rather have several things going on at one time and make sure that I put 100 percent into my work.
My mom was a teacher and has worked with all age levels and many different subjects. As a little girl I would love to go in and watch her teach.! I saw how she made a difference in kid’s lives and I wanted to be just like her and teach someday. As a little girl, I spent many hours in my room playing school and being the teacher for my friends and stuffed animals. In high school I took child development classes and worked in the elementary schools twice a week. I knew this was my calling and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I also taught Sunday School at our church.
In the fall of 2000, I started taking classes at Johnson County Community College in the Early Education Program. This made me very happy!! I knew I was on a road to building my skills and helping more children. I enjoyed the classes and did very well in them. I also met a lot of new students and teachers who I still keep in contact with.
My second year at JCCC I got a letter from the college saying my grades met the college’s honors standard and I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa (the International Honors Society of two year colleges). I did not really know what to think, but I joined. Our chapter, Alpha Iota Gamma, was very active. Many of our members participated in academic, volunteer, and fundraising activities both on and off campus. I served as Vice President of Service Projects. I loved doing it so much that I continued serving in that position the next full year. In this position I set up different volunteer activities and events on and off campus, and then got the students and community involved. This was a very fun office but did require a lot of dedication and time.
I have many years of experience working with kids of all ages. I have taught gymnastics from tot’s classes through team from 1998 to 2002. I also helped with Special Olympics classes, hosted Birthday parties and the Halloween party held at the gym.
In 1999 I began the position of assistant teacher at the Roeland Park Child Development Center (in the Roeland Park Community Center -- part of the Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department). I held that position for about eight months and then was promoted to lead teacher. We had one room with 24 children ranging from ages 3 to 5 that was always busy with little hands and curious minds. My responsibilities included teaching, some training, curriculum planning, field trip planning, and holding parent/teacher conferences.
I am very interested in working with special needs children and adults. I would like to get a masters in special education one day. Right now I work with a young man that has Down’s Syndrome / Autism. I take him bowling, swimming, to movies, on walks, to the YMCA and to the store where he can get practice buying things and doing it himself. He and his Dad have a kettle corn business that I help him with.
I have also worked with a girl who had health problems from age 2 1/2 to 8 years old. Every week I would go over to her house to work with her. Home schooling was something new and interesting to me. I would plan different fine and gross motor skills activities such as learning about colors, letter games and shapes, and learning to walk up and down the stairs the right way.
I worked with a child with cerebral palsy. I worked on gross motor skills and strengthening exercises with her.
I also work with a 9 year old girl with spcial needs on some weekends. We work on listening skills, puzzles, letters, trips to the park and farm. I have been with Allison since she was 7.
I got a great job being a nanny for a set of twins. . I took care of Gabrielle and Dawson, from age 2 1/2 until they were 4. I planned daily activites (music, arts and crafts and different learning activites using toys) and loved doing this. I also cooked meals, washed clothes amd keep the house picked up. I took the kids to play groups, stroy time, the park, pet store and the library. I would write daily notes for the parents to read about the kids day. I left lot of articles and ideas for the paretns to work on things with the kids.
