When people ask me why I love children, I typically reply, "I never had a choice. I am the oldest of 6 children." I graduated from Berea College with a 4-year degree in Child and Family Studies with a concentration in Child Development. During my fourth year, I worked as a helper in the 2-year-old classrooms at the Child Development Laboratory which is connected to the college. I loved my time there, and still keep in touch with a few of the families of the children I worked with. During the summers of my college years, I worked at an outdoor adventure camp in Northern Virginia. I have been returning to Camp since the summer of 2013 because of the unique opportunities that it gives me to connect with and positively impact children from a variety of backgrounds and age groups. I have worked there as a camp counselor, as Read more part of the leadership structure, and as a facilitator for team challenge courses, high ropes courses, nature classes, and other camp activities. I enjoy baby-sitting most when I get to watch the same children multiple times. The trust and relationship that can be built are what make babysitting rewarding and satisfying.
