When I was 15 I didn't know I what I wanted to be as an adult. Then tragedy happened , my father , my sole parent, was in a plane crash and would be paralyzed from his waist down permanently! At first no one knew if he was going to survive but if he did he would live the adventurous , fast paced life he once did. I was going to take care of his health, happiness, anything it took for my dad to be ok. That was what I wanted to be when I grew up! Someone who made people feel special, turn tragedy into triumph , impossible to possible, I didn't want anyone to have to feel hopeless or sad like I saw my dad. I have taken care of special needs, handicap , terminally ill, and suicidal people my whole life !(almost) i went into labor on Read more my 21st bday with my only child , she was born the day after but the Drs were being vague. They told me she had s severe case of Down's syndrome and 2 holes in her heart and I should put her in an institution. I fired that dr on the spot! She was perfect in my eyes and we would overcome everything TOGETHER! She's happy and healthy and 24 years young today! I had the opportunity to caregive for an 80 yr old mentally sharp world traveled beaut of a lady with stage4 lung cancer. When I started she wouldn't eat, she just read or watched tv. I asked her if she would like me to fix her hair and maybe put some color on her face after we bathed, she said sure. After I finished she was a different Sybil! She was happy! Everyday that was our routine , sometimes we would load up in the car oxygen and all and just drive she loved that the most. She even visited her bridge club just to watch and show the other ladies she still was the most stylish! I adjusted her diet and she started eating and gaining weight and even tho she had come to terms with her fate she didn't just sit and wait on it anymore! She impacted my life more than I ever did hers, I miss her terribly. The only training I have is the training I have done all my life, I'm not certified or have a degree , I learned from experience . I do know cpr, how to take vitals, and what to recognize when something isn't right. I would love to be a part of that special person in your life in hopes I could make a difference and at the same time learn and grow further in my caregiving experience
