I moved to New Orleans five years ago from Florida to pursue a Master's degree at Tulane in Art History. Along the way, I realized the academic world was not for me. I yearned for a job where I could make a difference in people's lives in the present, rather than studying the past. After graduating, I decided to start over and go back to school, this time for nursing. I will be beginning Level II this coming fall semester at Charity School of Nursing, and I could not have been happier with my choice to change careers. Working in the nursing home and in t he hospital last semester, I had the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life. Patients in the hospital are scared, uncertain about the future, and often have to rely on others to do everything for them for the first time in Read more their lives. Learning how to provide care to these patients, both physically and mentally, has been a very rewarding experience and something that I have adopted into my everyday life. When I was in high school and as an undergraduate at Florida State, I had a number of babysitting and petsitting jobs that I did to supplement my income as a poor college student. At 27 years old, I am again a poor college student, and because of the intensity of the nursing program, I am not able to work as much as I have in the past. I felt babysitting would be a good way to supplement my income while also providing me with additional experience in the caregiver role. I am a certified nurses assistance, and I am CPR certified with the American Heart Association. Your children will be in capable hands if an emergency did arise. I drive a 2010 Mini Cooper, which is a safe and reliable vehicle, so I will always be punctual. I also have a dog and two cats of my own, and have been around animals my entire life, so the more pets the merrier, and I can even pet sit if needed.
