My name is Madelyn Kingan and I am going into my final year at Wheelock College. I'm studying Art therapy with a particular interest in child, adolescent and family psychology. My favorite color is red and I can recite most Disney songs. I have been babysitting since I can remember. It started with being put in charge of the children in my group and went from there. I have been formally babysitting since I was about 12/13 and have been able to keep it up since. Not only do I love children there are many occasions when I understand them. This really comes in handy when a child lashes out or when they are not communication what is going on in their head. Although children must obey, I implement a state of respect that children are often very receptive to. I also understand the importance of rules and fun. As I head into my final year of Wheelock College I can confidently say that I have learned so much about the cognitive growth of children, the types of struggles that they have to face and different strategies to helping children be their best. Once I have an understanding of a parents wishes for their children I have no problem providing instruction that allows the child to have consistency from one adult to another.
