I am currently a Spanish and English as a Second Language Teacher at Roxbury Preparatory High School. Currently I am finishing my Masters in Curriculum and Teaching at Boston University. As a 2nd year teacher I have learned to create an environment for my students that engaging, focused, and safe. It is essential that my students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes in my classroom. Before becoming a teacher, during my summers as an undergrad I taught Social Studies to 6th graders at Breakthrough Cambridge. Through, this program I learned the importance of teaching through love and energy. In the morning, we would greet the kids with cheers; lead skits at community meeting, eat lunch with them, and then cheer again and chase the bus in the afternoon. During my time at Holy Cross I baby sat two my professors’ children between the ages of 3 and 7. Read more We would read, do puzzles, watch Martha Speaks, and take walks around campus. Also, during my last winter break as undergrad I babysat the children of a Holy Cross Alum; 2 boys and 1 girl. The baby girl was usually fast asleep by the time I got there in the evening, so I would play cars and trucks with the boys, give them a snack, and watch 30 minutes of Curious George. I have had experience working with kids in a variety of age groups. I love working with kids because they are full of energy, curiosity and happiness. Working with kids pushes me to be the best me that I can be. My experience teaching and babysitting has enhanced my organizational skills and creativity.
