My name is Dorri and I think kids are more amusing than adults. I came to realize this as I've watched my niece and nephews grow up over the last 8 years. The realization was reinforced when I began teaching at an Outdoor Education center. I wasn't one of those kids who grew up babysitting so I didn't have a lot of experience in my teenaged days, but when I graduated college I began my internship at the Outdoor Ed center and was put in charge of up to 13 kids for a week at a time, teaching them Science, conservation, and Social Studies with a bit of Language Arts thrown in (I was a Creative Writing major in college so I value the power of creative word quite a bit). I also got to perform skits, sing repeat-after-me songs, dress up, build fairy houses, make crafts, tell stories, do Read more science experiments, bake cookies, and all sorts of other fun recreations. I consider myself an artistic person who loves to find outlets for expression, so being creative and imaginative is incredibly important to me as a sitter and as a person. Though I am not incredibly experienced in babysitting, I have been responsible for the care of 1-12 kids at a time and have always put an emphasis on making each and every kid feel safe, comfortable, and as content as possible. Little though they might be, I value their friendship as much as anyone's. I am not afraid, however, of putting on a disciplinarian's hat when the situation calls for it. Along with being an artistic person, I am a fan of outdoor education and am passionate about the outlet I feel it provides for both learning and curiosity and joy. Much of my leisure time is spent outdoors, and I feel the most fun can be had out there. I have been trained in educational programs such as Project Wet, Project Wild, Project Learning Tree, and Population Connection, which are full of fun projects to keep kids entertained and informed. I am also First Aid certified (and Epi-pen trained!).
