Like many women, I started babysitting at a young age, when I was practically a child myself. From a young age, I learned that caring for others entails both joy and responsibility. At the root of my experience are the wonderful babysitters I had growing up. In school and in life, children are so often told "no." I believe in telling children "yes." That doesn't mean sacrificing safety or a parent's standards of care - it means letting children be themselves and encouraging them to do what they love. If that's quietly solving a puzzle, great. If that's wrestling on the floor, or finger painting, or exploring a magical world in the backyard - all great. I believe in warm words and physical affection, in getting your hands dirty, in accessing your own childhood memories and experiences to better understand and care for children. I believe in the transformative power of art, and in enabling children to develop a strong sense of self. Let's draw, sing songs, and write poems. Let's kick around a soccer ball and make a pillow fort. Let's bake cookies, and not care how perfect they turn out. Whatever your child brings to the table, I'm game, but I have an endless supply of activities, arts projects, and games in my repertoire as well. I've cared for children of all ages, from toddlers to middle schoolers. My experience ranges from being a camp counselor to volunteering at an orphanage in Mexico. While a student at Williams College, I designed and taught extracurricular courses to elementary schoolers on creative writing and "girl power." I am trustworthy, responsible, and genuinely enjoy getting to know every child's unique spirit. References are available upon request.
