I was born and raised in a small town in northwest Massachusetts. I began working as a mother’s helper at the age of 13. By the time I was 15, the families I worked for allowed me to babysit for them independently. I was hired by a sleepaway camp as a waterfront staff member in 2009. This required certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and use of an AED. I taught swimming lessons to both boys and girls between the ages of five and fourteen. After realizing how much I enjoyed teaching kids how to swim and/or perfect their strokes, I started my own swimming lesson business back home the following summer. I was hired by the Massachusetts Audubon Society the same summer I began my swimming lesson business. I was a full-time camp counselor with a specialty in canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. My campers ranged from 6-12 years old, and Read more varied each week, as each session was only one week long. I played a significant role at this camp because I was the only staff member other than the director that was lifeguard/first aid/AED certified. After two years with the Audubon Society, I was offered a job as the Head Lifeguard at a local waterfront called Stockbridge Bowl in Stockbridge Massachusetts. As the head lifeguard, I supervised two lifeguards, created work schedules on spreadsheets, and maintained the beachfront on a daily basis. I am currently in the process of getting my EMT license. I have completed the EMT course and will be taking the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians). During the school year I am a part-time nanny for two families where I attend college, both of which have two children. The older siblings are 3 and a half years old, and the younger two are 18-20 months old. One of the children that I take care of has special needs and it is an absolute joy watching him grow every day. I will be completing my BS in Health Science/Nutrition in May of 2015.
