Attention and Attentiveness: I possess more than 5 years' experience working as a babysitter in others' homes. I believe my most singular quality as a babysitter is my complete and total attention to the well-being and the development of the children I am entrusted to keep in my care. My mother used to say, "If you can't see them or hear them, they probably need your help!". Her point was to never let a baby or young child out of one's sight. And I simply do not. Ever. I think that this trait is unusual in a babysitter, given my own experience as one who grew up with babysitters. Raised by a working mother, an excellent critical care nurse who applied some of her training toward helping me learn how to avoid, to quickly detect and, if needed, to intervene in emergencies. I have saved a child from choking during Read more an average, normal dinner. I know how to bring a fever down. I have taken lifesaving in the past, and I know that drowning is a silent killer of children (a flailing child in the water typically cannot yell for help), and that therefore one must not take their eyes off of children at the beach or by the pool. In short, I know how important being completely and fully attentive at every moment is, and I would apply this knowledge to your child. Fun & Caring, Yet Responsible Too: I well remember that at every moment of my childhood I was able to discern which babysitters really cared for me and which did not. I know that your children will be able to do the same, and I want to facilitate memories for them that are full of genuine caring, fun and laughter, yet which at the same time reinforce the limits that their parents would like. Sometimes this means saying "no," and demonstrating in a kind, caring and positive way that one means what one says. Language Skills: I am what many would consider bilingual in French and in English. While I hesitate to say I am entirely bilingual, as I know there is always so much more to learn, I can say that I am sometimes mistaken for being French. My language abilities are the result of a concentrated effort to make France my second home as much as possible, and I have lived and worked in France in the past. I also possess a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish, and am able to request basic things and am often able to understand everyday phrases.
