I realized my desire to work with children when I worked on a Children's summer camp in Rocky Mount, MO. I worked on this summer camp for 2 years as a Drama Specialist, and for 3 years as the Drama Director. My role as the Drama Director included organizing and leading Drama games and activities, as well as choosing a production for the the camp play, holding auditions, organizing rehearsals, and directing the a play. I also held a leadership position among other staff members. I graduated with a B.A (Honors) in Drama and Film Studies. From my time working at a summer camp in Rocky Mount, MO, I knew how much I loved working with children and teaching Thetare. It was then that I decided to pursue a teaching career by attending the University of South Carolina where to study the Master of Arts in Theatre Education. I have Read more also worked in a variety of settings that involved teaching Theatre to children from ages 3 - 15. I have worked as a Theatre Teacher at Playhouse on the Square, Germantown Community Theatre, Memphis Jewish Community Center, and Germantown Performing Arts Center. My most recent employment was teaching at a KIPP charter school in Blytheville, AR. The position, however, involved teaching Drama to 9th Grade, and Art to 7th, 8th and 9th Grade. I wasn't able to meet the expectations the school held for an Art teacher, therefore, this employment was terminated. I do however hold a license to teach Theatre in Tennessee and Arkansas. From my experience working in a variety of different educational settings, I have discovered how rewarding it is to work with children. As a teacher, I always encourage and support a child's awareness, personal growth as well as their creativity through the Arts. This is one of the reasons why I love teaching. For some children, we may be their role model, or someone who they feel comfortable approaching. Through my love for working with children, I aim to be an approachable and supportive individual.
