As the oldest sibling of three and the middle grandchild of 11 kids, I have incredible amounts of first hand experience babysitting, caring for both my little brothers and cousins since I was 9 years old. At 14, my youngest brother was born and became my favorite responsibility, with me often being the only one that could put him to sleep. Since then, I have babysat throughout college. Most notably, a troupe of 3 boys ages 2, 6 and 9 along with their pets, which included 3 monkeys, 2 dogs, a cat, and one pet iguana (Sounds like Dr. Dolittle, but I promise it's true). After that experience, I can truly say I am an animal lover and I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty! Since graduating, I have made it a point to discover the city and take my little cousins and brother with me, whether to Read more the circus, to the Spy Museum, to the zoo, to the pool or wherever our imaginations so choose. I have babysat children of family friends, including two girls, age 6 and 10, during the summer months. Every day duties included helping the girls get ready in the morning, lunch preparation and dreaming up and following through with cool activities for the afternoon until their mother came home. I have experience with senior care, which has only served to strengthen my care for children. While visiting my house for an extended stay of a month, I cared for my grandmother, who is in the latter stages of Alzheimer's, in absence of her personal CNA. Care included taking blood pressure and sugar levels in the morning, followed by making meals throughout the day, and ensuring that she ate. It also entailed monitoring her in the restroom, assisting with bathing and engaging with her as much as possible. I have over five years in the food and hospitality industry. I enjoy cooking and am willing to do food preperation. I can clean. I own my own vehicle and have a clean driving record. As an aspiring writer and journalist (returning to UMD for a Master's in Journalism) with a Bachelors in English Literature and Composition, I can be of great help to any children who need help in any humanities subject, whether it be assistance with reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, punctuation and/or proofreading. With my patience, youthful spirit and deeply rooted family values, I know how important it is to know that your child or children are in the right hands. I hope to be that comfort for you.
