Growing up I was one of eight siblings. The oldest of us all is 29 and the youngest is 9. I have always enjoyed children and someday would love a few of my own. Being one of the older siblings, I had to help out a lot babysitting. Babysitting in my house meant making dinner, giving "tubbies" as my mom would call them, and playing with them until it was time for bed/naps. Before I was old enough to help watch the young ones, my parents would call a family friend to come and watch us for a period of time. Some of my most fun memories as a kid were with her - whether it was making up dances in the living room, baking cookies, or walking to the park up the street. I would love to have the same influence on other children and give them the awesome Read more babysitting experience I had when I was younger. For a short period of time in high school, I would spend my summers watching my cousins 4-year-old and set of 1-year-old twins. This entailed bottles, diaper changes, snacks, baths, playtime, scheduled naps, and more. I always enjoyed seeing them every day and the hugs because they wouldn't want me to leave. It was definitely a challenge some days between the temper tantrums and fighting over toys but the girls truly brightened my day and made me love children even more. Now that I'm in college, I've decided to study health education. I have learned so much about guiding not only the community but specifically children on topics such as hygiene, healthy eating, and prevention strategies. Using this in a babysitting aspect would definitely be helping especially for children of a young age who are just beginning to learn things such as the importance of washing hands after playing outside.
