We hired Rachael to nanny for our 2 yr old in Sept. We tried to make her happy giving her all requested days off, competitive pay and letting her fiancé join her at work. We joked that we worked for her. To her credit she was gentle with our son and we trusted he was safe with her. We work full time and need someone reliable. She was absent 17 of the 44 days she worked for us requiring us to take excessive time off and was 10-15 minutes late daily. The job description entailed light housekeeping. We asked she keep our kitchen clean (dishes, counters, microwave). Our son napped 2-3 hours daily but we regularly came home to messes. We repeatedly ask her to be more productive detailing the things we needed her to do. She spent most of her days sitting on the sofa on her phone. She called & texted daily with questions about activities to do with our son, how to dress him, what to feed him... We explained we weren't picky & to use her judgment but the calls continued. Twice she called my wife to come home from work claiming our son was unable to hold his head up & was shaking. My wife rushed home to find he had a minor cough. Her lack of judgement concerned us. She used TV excessively. We repeatedly asked her to do art projects or take him to the library which never happened. On her last day she texted asking what should she do with him because it was raining. We reached peek frustration with her when we again came home to find a sink full of dirty dishes. We texted letting her know this wasn't acceptable and she responded by resigning a month before the end of her agreed upon contract. She was constantly absorbed in her own problems with little regard for our family's needs or understanding that when she was at work we need her to work. She lacked the maturity to take feedback and the work ethic to be helpful. It was heartbreaking for us watching her leave on her last day without so much as acknowledging our son or giving him a hug.
