Hello, I'm Kate. I have been working with children for multiple years, from providing a babysitter service to becoming a program leader at local after school programs and summer camps. I started caring for children when I was 17, I was a babysitter for two children at the age of 8 and 11. I cared for the children for one summer and I still have a great relationship with the family. I did not work with children for the next two years, not until I was 19 when I started a summer camp job. I started out working with 3rd graders and formed a special bond with the group of children, a bond that was kept until those children went onto middle school. I have worked with the summer camp program for four years gaining experience working with all age groups of children, for two of the four years I Read more had worked with the Kindergarten group. I also worked at an after school program as well for two years with grades 2nd-5th. Few of the skills I learned from working at the summer camp and after school program include: Leadership- having to take charge of the room and get the children's attention Patience- each child had a completely different personality and temperament and instead of "losing my cool" I had to learn how to adjust situations in an efficient yet understanding way. Adaptability- I led multiple parts of the program from Arts and Craft to Physical Activity to Nutrition with that being said I had to do a good amount of planning, but sometimes plans don't work or the activity doesn't take as long as I hoped so instead of having 10 bored Kindergarteners I had to come up with other activities on the spot to keep the children entertained. Conflict Resolution- As I stated before, each child had a different personality or temperament and sometimes those personalities clashed with each other so it was my job to approach each conflict with an open mind and understand both sides of the situation. Each year before the summer camp program and after school program I had to go through training that was provided through Parks and Rec.
