Hello, my name is Layla Ellaisy and I am a senior at Howard University studying to obtain a B.A degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in community development. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for working with children. Back in high school, I worked closely with the youth program at the local YMCA, ensuring that children understood the importance of both mental an physical health. As a senior in high school, I had the opportunity to be a facilitator for a Capstone program which partnered with a local middle school and was privileged to work hands on with elementary students on both their academic as well as social development. Throughout my matriculation at Howard, I have been blessed with opportunity to collaborate with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS)and the Trio Upward Bound (UB)program. As a big sister Read more mentor with BBBS , I worked closely with an elementary school student on her social skills as well as person development goals. As a tutor counselor with Howard's UB program , I worked both inside and outside of the classroom with high school students while exposing the students to the intimacy ( both socially and academically )of college life. But most importantly, I am aware of the influence that the environment has on the advancement of a child's growth and feel it my duty to use the knowledge that I have to continue planting seeds and watching them blossom into amazing children. With my years of experience, I believe that I am the perfect fit in order to ensure a safe, positive and friendly environment for your family !
