Empathetic, passionate Clinical Case Manager with experience in D.C. foster care system, Peace Corps, and AmeriCorps and specializations in working with displaced populations, play therapy, and trauma. I am naturally energized by my work with children and take joy and pride in developing specialized materials and activities to match their individual needs, stregnths, and cultural backgrounds. I am particularly well-versed in superheroes and fairy tale archetypes and frequently utilize them those characters in materials and activities with children to increase their interest and motivation levels. I graduated from Howard University with my Masters in Social Work with a concentration in working with displaced populations in 2009. I have specialized in working with some of the most complicated clinical cases as part of my employment within the foster care system and demonstrate veteran experience in dealing with severe behavioral and attachment issues. I originally moved to the D.C. area shortly after Read more finishing my service with the Peace Corps in Eastern Europe to serve with AmeriCorps here as a coordinator for an afterschool tutoring program and support group facilitator with elementary school-age refugee and low-income immigrant children. I also demostrate experience working with youth with mild to moderate disabilities through my positions as a site director and activities counselor at a specialized summer day camp via C.Y.O. throughout college and through my work with youth ages infant to 21 in the District's foster care system. One of my most concrete memories that propelled my career in working with children stems from my first internship working with children in a transitional living center in Southside Chicago during college. One of the little boys had grown up feeling inferior to his younger brother and was struggling with his behavior at school and at home. He had a darker complexion, struggled more with academics, and associated part of himself with his father's previous abuse. Seeing those boys' faces light up as they were provided with greater stability, structure, and support for all the different parts of their personalities through those activities convinced me that I could help empower children and help them feel safe, lovable, and understood.
