Welcome to my profile! My name is Kelsi Carter, and I am a loving and fun 26 year old, originally from Pittsburgh, PA. For the past 4 years, I've worked as a Human Resources Manager at a nonprofit that serves people with developmental disabilities. I've just recently left that job, in order to pursue going back to college to finish my degree as well as to pursue a career path that is a little more in line with what i'd ultimately like to be doing. Working with children has always been a passion for me, and I believe this is the perfect time to get back to that passion! Throughout high school and college, I babysat regularly, particularly many of the preteen girls and their younger siblings who attended the summer day camp where I was a counselor. I also volunteered as a tutor for America Reads, America Counts while Read more I attended UMD, which saw me tutoring struggling elementary school students with reading. I also served as an organizer for a youth sports nonprofit that was created by a good friend of mine, where we focused on the importance of teamwork, character development, and education for our young football players and cheerleaders. After entering the 9-5 world a few years ago, there wasn't much time for frequent babysitting, so I've primarily been watching the babies and toddlers of good friends. My hobbies include playing softball, doing pottery and crafts, visiting museums, and I plan to volunteer with the special olympics this spring. My ultimate career goal is to start and run a few nonprofit organizations, including starting a Literacy center for children in Pittsburgh with my mother, who works as a reading specialist. As a babysitter, I would describe myself as positive, encouraging, attentive, and fun! I believe very strongly in positive reinforcement, and learned a great deal about behavioral strategies from my time working with people with developmental disabilities. I also believe that every moment is an opportunity for learning or skill building, and that children should be engaged as much as possible, not just sitting around watching TV. What I can guarantee to any parent who hires me as a sitter is that I will always be a positive influence on your children...never negative, and never just a warm body in the room...always a positive and engaging presence.
