I started social work because I believed in justice, and that people shouldn't experience everything we do in life feeling alone. From there, I've grown into a deep passion with kids (stemming from personal neglect/abuse and my awareness of what that can mean for children as they age into adults). My car has a bumper sticker that says, "Listen to children" because to me, we fail to do that -- the ol' "I'm older and know everything" adage works again our children developing self respect and the ability to trust themselves. I have an 8 year old brother with autism who challenges me every day from how do we communicate over an issue to explaining why something isn't OK, and have worked with many underprivileged children; I seek to foster personal responsibility, empathy, and individual development.
