Hello, my name is Cagney Bowen and I am a student at the University of Maine majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in child development and family relations. My whole life I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I am so excited for my future. I truly believe that educating, encouraging, developing, inspiring and helping mold the youth of today is my purpose. I took on the role of my mother's helper my whole life as the oldest of my siblings. My father is a pilot and travels all over the world, so I would often watch my two younger brothers while my mother worked. I watched my younger brother until I moved away from home for college, he is 7 years younger than me. I would cook dinner, help with homework, play with him and get him ready for bed. At the age of 14, I Read more began babysitting and aiding my neighbor's in caring for their 6-month-old baby because both parents worked full time, one a professor and the other a pediatric nurse who worked an hour away. I watched this little girl until I left for college when she was 4 years old, and still watch her when I go home (she's 6 now!). I babysat several of the children in my neighborhood growing up, but she was who I had the deepest connection with given that I helped raise her. I also worked at a child care center at a ski resort, watching anywhere from 25-45 children with a group of 7-10 supervisors. I have experience working as a tutor at the Old Town/Orono YMCA as a tutor for elementary students the past two and a half years. I am trained in both first aid and CPR.
