My name is Liz Nadeau and I am currently a student at the University of Maine at Farmington. I am studying Community Health Education and I will be graduating with my bachelor's degree in the Spring of 2021. When I leave UMF, I plan to further my education to get my BSN. I have been providing childcare to children of all ages for many years. I have loved the experiences that childcare has given to me. I started providing care for children when I was in junior high. I would watch my cousins on an "as needed" basis. The youngest was an infant and the oldest was 2 years old. My second experience included me providing childcare to a three-month-old infant during the summer going into sophomore year of high school. I worked the majority of the week providing care from 8 am-5 pm while her mother was at work. Read more Recently I have been providing childcare for foster families in Maine. I am responsible for providing care to multiple children while their mothers and fathers attend a meeting. During college, I have provided care once per week to a family. This family has four children. They have three little girls: ages four, two, and one. They also have a son, age eleven. I was responsible for providing care to all four children at one time. I was also responsible for completing the bedtime routine with them. This consisted of brushing their teeth, getting pajamas on, and settling the younger children into their cradles. Lastly, I have been providing care to an infant on an "as needed" basis a couple of times per month. I have realized that every childcare opportunity brings new insight, struggles, strategies, and rewards. With each new situation, there are obstacles to face, routines to learn, and children to bond with. I pride myself in providing care to children. I am most confident in providing childcare to infants, however, I have experiences with children of all ages. During the last 6+ years of providing childcare to children throughout the state of Maine, I have learned many things about myself. I am calm, I am patient, and I am yet to get overwhelmed by a crying baby. I am fun and loving. I love to play, get crafty, and use my imagination with children of older ages. I can multitask and manage my time efficiently when taking care of multiple children of varied ages. Lastly, I have enjoyed all the experiences that childcare has given me.
