I have always loved working with children, especially infants. In fact, I loved being a caregiver so much that I decided to pursue the nursing profession! I am currently a second-year Nursing student at Michigan State University pursuing a BSN degree. I hope to work as an RN for a few years and hopefully going to grad school to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I first became exposed to babysitting since I was in middle school. It started as simply caring for kids in my neighborhood to picking up children from school when I reached high school. I also have experience caring for premature infants for a few weeks. Roles included steaming baby bottles, changing diapers, bathing, bottle-feeding, and playing and putting babies to sleep. I also have various pediatric related volunteering and shadow experiences. I shadowed my former karate instructor, a NICU nurse, at the SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis last summer. I watched her perform tasks, like placing nasogastric tubes to feed the babies and administering medications during her night shift. I also worked as a volunteer on the Mother-Baby unit at Sparrow Hospital in East Lansing.
