I do not carry any specific certificates or formal training in this area but I do contain a decent amount of experience. During high school, part of my income was babysitting for neighbors and instructors. The maximum amount of children I have looked after is 5 at one time. My preference is 3 children at once from ages 2 and up (although I have cared for 5 months and up). My longest, consecutive experience was with 3 boys; currently ages 11, 8, and 4. I started babysitting them 3 years ago. Whenever I was watching them, the hours ranged from 2-7 hours a day. Although a majority of my experience is with little boys, I have a heart for girls as well. Watching girls comes naturally to me since I have a little sister 6 years my junior. To me, children are the future so as an adult, I feel I have a responsibility to nurture and be a positive example/influence to all that are younger than me. I come from an artistic family so crafts are a huge part of my babysitting style. I don't believe in electronics that are not brain-stimulating such as most video games and, I will be blunt, dumb television shows. What I do in place of "screen time" is play board games, read, outdoor activities (depending on the weather), crafts, and other things that aid to a child's interest. I make it a priority to get to know the child (or children) because in truth, they can tell when someone is invested in them. People invest in things they believe in. A few more things about me personally is that I am in the middle of a year off from college after I decided that I wasn't sure what I wanted to go into. I have now chosen to pursue a career in the dental field and possibly social work later in life. In the meantime, I am job-hunting, working retail, kickboxing, and writing fictional novels.
