My name is Patrick Hayden and I am 23 years old. I graduated from Saint John’s University (Collegeville, MN) in May of 2014 with a degree in Biology and plan to go on to graduate school in a few years to become a Physician Assistant. Currently I am working as a Medical Scribe at both Abbot Northwestern Hospital and West Health Emergency Department to help increase my experience in the medical field. Despite the fantastic training I am receiving on the job, I am not paid much as a scribe and would like something else to do in my free time. The reason I first started nannying goes all the way back to when I was 6 years old and required a nanny of my own. Our nanny was named Lindsay and she watched over my older sister, my younger sister, my younger brother and myself for multiple summers while Read more my parents worked. At the time I felt somewhat abandoned by my parents and I attempted to make Lindsay’s job as hard as possible. Despite my best efforts, she would come back every morning with a renewed sense of purpose and a contagious smile on her face. Her optimism simply could not be broken and before I knew it, she had won me over. I soon began to think of her as a close friend and found joy in my days spent with her instead of angst. But eventually my elder sister was old enough to watch us while my parents were working and we didn’t need Lindsay to watch us anymore. Still, Lindsay would come back and visit us from time to time to take us out for lunches, movies or other fun activities. To this day our family still keeps in touch with her and we see her as often as she can manage. Lindsay changed my childhood for the better and made me want to affect others in similar ways. I first started babysitting my two younger siblings (aged 6 and 8 at the time) when I was 13 years old. Having a confident, responsible demeanor, my parents were comfortable putting me in charge. When I was 17 I got my first summer "manny” job for two boys aged 12 and 14. My duties included making meals for the brothers, assisting them in daily chores and driving them to their respective activities around town. The upon finishing my first year at Saint John's, I was asked to nanny for another family who had one 11 year old boy. Duties for him included making meals, helping with daily chores and also assisting in his summer homework assignments. In addition, this boy had ADHD which challenged me as a caretaker and made me a more patient and understanding person.
