I have always loved working with little ones and have been babysitting off and on since I was in high school. In addition, I have over two years of more structured professional childcare experience. And then, since I had my son two years ago, I've gotten the most intensive experience there is. During high school and college, I babysat for a few different families (one boy from ages 2-4 and and a brother/sister aged 12 and 7). I was also a tutor during this time for German and English. From 08/2011 to 08/2012, I worked as a Team Leader for the Youth Volunteer Corps in Kansas City, MO. This work included leading groups of children (ages 11-18) on service projects in the community. I planned educational components to correspond with the volunteer work we were doing, supervised groups, and tried to make the projects enjoyable for everyone. From 02/2014 to Read more 05/2015, I worked at another Kansas City non-profit called Community LINC. As an Interim Housing Program for homeless families, part of their services included a Children's Program, and it was my job to train all volunteers working with the children (ages ranged from infant to 18). My responsibilities included training volunteers on infant care, helping care for infants and toddlers, and coordinating with the Children's Program Director about logistics (activities, snacks, etc.) as well as strategies and approaches to providing the best possible childcare and meeting each child's needs. This work was just the right combination of challenging and rewarding and I realized then that professional childcare is an ideal fit for me. My family moved back to St. Louis from Kansas City last June to be closer to my family, and I've taken some time off work since then to help make that transition easier and spend time with my son. Now I'm eager to start working again doing something that I love. I am looking for the right family to stay with long-term. I would love to bring my son with me while I work. (He is very well-behaved, loving, and gentle.) However, if that is not desirable for you, I do have a childcare option available for him and am happy to work without him. I have worked with children with some children with special needs and would be happy to do so again, with everything that that entails, including pursuing additional training and education. I am looking to renew my CPR/ First Aid certification as soon as possible, and I should have that within 2 to 3 weeks.
