Jenna’s Bio

Hello! I'm Jenna and I started child care in Connecticut when I was just 11 years old, thanks to opportunities provided by my church and church members. I've been babysitting (and sometimes a nannyy) ever since and I'm 35 years old now. I moved to the Plaza Midwood area Charlotte in 2005 and started working with kids here right away through a couple of connections here and I've been in the same area ever since.
I've been a full-time nanny in Charlotte, usually spread between a couple of families, as well as having worked in the corporate world. I'm currently looking for a full-time nanny job, with one family, or more, but I'm still available for regular babysitting jobs on weeknights and weekends.
I don't have children of my own, but I've always loved children - hence starting at 11 years old and continuing to have children be a part of my life for the past 24 years!
I've cared for all ages of children, from newborn all the way up to the fun, and interesting, teenage years, and this includes different sets of twins along the way. I love taking care of kids at any age, but I do really enjoy the baby/toddler/young child age group. Of course, it's nice to have the older children where you can start having regular conversations with them! Most of the families I sit for these days have 2 - 3 children per household, but I have plenty of experience in handling a lot of children at once!
While I mentioned church previously, I am no longer affiliated with a specific church or denomination. However, when caring for the children of other families whatever their religion is is what goes. I respect the choices and beliefs of other families and always do my best to be open, receptive and engaged with children if/when they bring up religion.
When it comes to the diet and nutritional aspect of caring for children, I personally love to see diversity in the foods kids will eat. Some children are great at trying different foods they may not be used to and others might just be dead set against it. However, I always do my best to incorporate healthy and nutritious foods into your children's meals and snacks. Personally, I don't believe in sweets and treats all day long and letting a child dictate to me (or their parents, teachers, relatives, etc.) what they will and will not eat.
I believe in keeping a tidy home, however I realize not everyone operates this way. While I do not play the role of babysitter/nanny and complete housekeeper, I do pick up after the children, do not leave any messes, and will clean/tidy up any messes that were in the house before I arrived. I'm a neat, clean and organized person and I like to be in a similar environment.  I have no problem with preparing meals and cleaning up, doing regular dishes, vacuuming, sweeping and picking up (and actually enjoy it), and overall maintenance and cleanliness, but deep cleaning is usually left to the family, separate housekeeper, or comes at an additional cost.
I enjoy playing games, cards and other activities with children, both indoor and out. While I was never a lifeguard, I did participate and complete all levels of swimming lessons when I was child and spent every summer at the town pool swimming and working, as well as friends' pools, lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. So someone with a pool of their own is quite the bonus! I have no issue taking the kids to swim and teaching them the basics, at least.
I am currently certified in CPR and First Aid for adults, children, and infants. I have maintained certification for 90% of the years from age 12 and on. I have taken babysitting courses (starting when I was 12) in which we had to be certified in CPR and First Aid, taken free courses through church in my younger years and then working at the town pool from 14 years old and through college where certification was required of all employees. I also was certified for the majority of my time in college due to activities and jobs I was involved in with the school. I definitely have the training under my belt and I am happy to say that only minor first aid has ever been needed in all my years of child care.
I have references I am more than happy to share with you.
