Hello! My name is Amber Cayton and my calling is caring for children. I moved to Charlotte from Boston about six years ago and I had the opportunity to fill in as a babysitter for a day for a co-worker. I became that families' go-to baby sitter for their 18 month old and her seven year old sister. Through word of mouth I was able to obtain babysitting jobs with many more families in the area. The kids I've been working with for years are growing up and sadly aren't needing as much care as before. I realized my happiness is caring for children so I would like to find some new families that I can be of service to. I don't have my own kids yet so I have lots of love for others.  The families I have been caring for typically have two siblings to care for ranging Read more in age from 18 months to 12 years old. I am devoted to the highest level of care and make it my business to entertain the children fully while also getting the important things done like homework and chores. I just like to make it fun at the same time. I make sure I set a great example for the children and firmly believe the children are our future. We must teach them well and let them lead the way (thank you Whitney Houston). I connect with children because I listen to them and don't dismiss their issues like some other adults do. Yes, in retrospect being a kid is great because they don't have to worry about grown up problems. They don't know what is in store for them though and what they are dealing with is brand new and shaping them into the adults they will become. I do not minimize their issues and concerns because they are very big and very real to them. I try to give them a little perspective and teach them to find gratitude in every situation because gratitude breeds happiness and I don't believe enough people have it. Children are very profound and see the world even when we think they aren't paying attention. I love their honesty and value a compliment or critique from a child almost more than an adult because it is usually genuine, sincere and honest. Age teaches us to mask our real opinions for the sake of social politics and harmony or hidden agendas. I also take laughing very serious and there will be a lot of that, which children truly appreciate. Grown ups have a lot of worries and can be stuffy at times.  I also volunteer as a Guardian ad Litem. I advocate for children who have been abused or neglected and have been placed in foster care. I do other volunteer work as well.
