Kelsey’s Bio

I am a very experienced nanny and sitter with a lot patience and love for young children. I have my BA in psychology and am currently at Duke Nursing in the ABSN program to get my RN. In April, I participated in a doula training and am very excited to begin exploring that role as well! In my free time this fall, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training.

I started babysitting my neighbors kids about 15 years ago and since then it's something I've always loved to do, whether at daycare, preschool, summer camp, or down the street. I am enthusiastic, flexible, responsible, resourceful, and ready to tackle any challenge. I have experience with all ages: newborns, infants, preschool, elementary aged through teen. I can cook meals, change diapers, fold laundry; you name it, your kids will always be in good hands. I find that maintaining communicative and connected relationships with families makes everyone happy!

I am happy to provide several excellent references upon request.

I hired Kelsey to babysit for my son 3 mornings a week while I was at work, plugging some important gaps in my childcare coverage. It was to be an ongoing 3 morning a week arrangement. After only 2 weeks she quit with an email on a Friday night of a holiday weekend saying she had taken another job with a slightly better schedule. She never asked me if I had flexibility, she never expressed any problems with the job or schedule, she did not give me time to find another regular care giver. It appears to me that she took my job while continuing to look for something better all along. She might do the same to you.

Provider's Response

Hi Karen, nice to hear from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment on our arrangement, and I'm sorry it did not work out between us. I imagine it must have been tough to hear I was no longer interested in working with you, and to have to find alternative care for your child at the last moment. It goes without saying that making sure your child is cared for is most important to us both. Because you had additional live-in care, I felt comfortable giving shorter notice.

In the past, I have sometimes arranged for a "trial period" with families -- over the 7 years I have used SitterCity (and the 15 years as a sitter), only one other arrangement has not worked out after that trial period and we amicably parted ways. All other arrangements have worked out fabulously for myself as well as the family, and most importantly the kids. We grow to establish strong, positive offline working relationships, thus obviating the need to stay connected on the site. In the future I will be sure to make that trial period clear and with grace.

With all due respect to you and yours, I am more interested in building warm relationships with families out of trust, empathy, and respect rather than being treated like a worker bee (or in this case, like a Yelp review). For these reasons I decided it best to seek out work with another family; I am still with them today and it has been wonderful! I hope this helps you understand why I felt I had to move on, and highlights to families interested in connecting with me that this was an exceptional circumstance.

I truly wish only the best for you and your family, and hope you were able to make a successful connection on SitterCity -- when it works out, it's really fun!
