Life experience: I have 15 years of experience as a sitter, 6 as a nanny. As manager for gymnastics gyms in SoCal and Tennessee, I’ve spent the last 5 years in sports coaching for ages preschool through high school, and also worked extensively with summer/holiday day camp programs, which entailed facilitating lots of structured games to get campers moving, planning daily crafts, and supervising unstructured play. Caregiving philosophy: My education in child development and psychology—and my experience in coaching—has taught me that positive, appropriate behavior from those in your care is best achieved by explaining expectations first, immediately acknowledging positive behavior, and ignoring undesirable behavior unless unsafe or causing harm to others. I would love to chat with you about what positive behaviors you would like to see emphasized to your child/ren, and what ideas you might have for rewarding those positive behaviors! Special skills/qualifications: I grew up with a Read more sister who has ADHD and Autism, and feel prepared to care for children with behavioral disorders and sensory issues. I have tutored in the past, was a straight-A student in AP subjects in grade school, and am comfortable assisting with all traditional school subject learning (math-calculus and below; science-physics, biology, anatomy/physiology, chemistry and below; English-reading, composition, grammar; history/social studies). I minored in Spanish at Duke University, and would be comfortable helping with Spanish school work. I have experience in and would love facilitating crafts, cooking, and indoor or outdoor games.
