I have been a single parent since my son was 3 mos. old and he is now 18 and in college! I was also a caretaker for both of my parents. My dad had dementia and my mom had broken her leg, which then progressed to other situations. I have been a teacher/artist all of my career and have taught from pre-school through college level. I am back in college myself, the first time I've been able to and I am a firm believer in being a life long learner! I am a caring, nurturing person who is a big communicator. I think children are constantly in positions to be taught and that love is something that we all need. I do believe it takes a village! I would care for any person, young or old, as if that were my child or parent...I think all caregivers need to be Read more very cognizant of that face. Whoever would hire me, would be getting a person who is loving and wanting to be there...who has a vast history of life experiences. I am an artist, a painter in particular and do strongly believe in the healing properties of what the arts provide. Drawing your feelings...is something I do with children when they are upset about something. It helps them to express, without having to verbalize and get's them occupied, getting their mind off of what they were initially upset about. It always works...it takes them out of their"bad" place and shifts their focus. Boys tend to love to get their hands into clay...something about it being so tactile is comforting. I also believe in playing more comforting music and classical music. It does have a calming effect. In conclusion, I am in a position to want to help a family who would be helping me in return, as I need to make an income to help pay my bills while both my son and I are in college. I think this is a wonderful way to provide both sides a way to help each other.
