Hello! As part of my experience with children, I worked at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired last summer. I worked for the Transition Program, which consisted of visually impaired young teenagers who also had other disabilities, such as learning disabilities. I helped teach them basic responsibilities in order to help them become more independent individuals, while also compensating for their vision loss. Along with this experience, I am part of an organization called Big Brothers Big Sisters in Miami. I am paired with at-risk children who live in poverty stricken neighborhoods in order to help influence them to stay in school and do well in school. The purpose is to keep these children engaged in their schoolwork and to help them, as many are struggling with their personal lives as well as their family lives at home.
