Because of my experience with children of all ages, I believe not only my attributes as a person but also my abilities to work with children would benefit your family in a positive way. I went to Padua Academy for high school, and I am now twenty years old attending the University of Delaware in my junior year. I am majoring in the field of Exercise Science with a minor in Disabilities Studies and pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy for graduate school. I have worked at multiple places working with children including Meadowood, Richardson Park Learning Center, GoBabyGo and the Hockessin Athletic Club. Meadowood School in Newark is a school for people ranging in age from 3- 21 years old, with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. I monitored students work, corrected papers, and assisted students with occupational and recreational activities. I also assisted children with dressing and undressing, Read more going to the bathroom, and transporting children from their wheelchair to the pool. This experience has taught me a lot about responsibility, patience, and the passion needed to care for children with special needs. This past summer I worked at Richardson Park Learning Center where I was a paraprofessional with children aged 5-6 years old. These children were diagnosed with autism, and they ranges from mild to severe, as well. The opportunity to work at this school gave me insight into the field of Occupational Therapy and experience working with children that I would like to work with in the future. At the University of Delaware, I am also a part of a research program at the new STAR campus called GoBabyGo, where I work with typical and atypical children. I work with them on a project that uses a body weight support system that studies why children with a physical impairment develop at a slower rate then children who are typical. We go over many studies and test, where we collect data and analyze it. This experience has provided insight into the best ways to deal with infants. I am a hardworking and passionate person, and I believe I would suit your family well. Being in college for three years now, I have learned responsibility, independence, and time management. I can prepare meals, if needed, and I can help clean, cook or drive. I have a good head on my shoulders, and I come from a family who values their time together. As a family, we support each other in everything that we do, and I will incorporate your family values when doing my job.
