I began my work in the field of childcare at the tender age of 5. My brother was just 6 months old, and my parents designated me (the youngest of 4 children) to be his caretaker. They called me, "the baby whisperer". I have always felt more at home with children than I did with most folks. When I was a teen, I bonded closely with the children of my babysitting clients. I felt more comfortable with my neighbor's toddler, than I did with my classmates. I love children, truly and deeply. They are humans who have yet to learn the art of the barricaded heart. Their hearts are totally open, and they are present in the moment, to the utmost. I believe that I have my time spent caring for open hearted children to thank for my current lack of armor around my heart. As a young adult, I Read more attended culinary school. When I became a chef, and began a career of 50-70 hour work weeks, my ability to care for children was put on a back burner, so to speak. I spent about 10 years working in the field of culinary arts. I called it quits with my career as a chef when my body could no longer withstand the long, difficult hours. Now, I have been blessed to return to a life of caring for tiny, open hearted children. I return to school, and am now a certified yoga instructor, with a focus on prenatal, and childhood yoga. I am also a certified pre and postpartum birth doula. I have also become a mother, to the most luminous little girl I've ever known (granted, that is a biased opinion). I am a single mother, and I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to return to childcare as a source of income for myself and my daughter. I am blessed to feel my days, once again find with the joy of caring for children.
