Hello! My name is Imelda but I prefer Mel or "Ms. Mel" as my kids like to call me. I am originally from West Palm Beach, Florida but I recently moved to New York in January for business opportunities with Prodigy Marketing and Consulting and to finish my nursing career. I am 22 years young, energetic, and fun loving person. I have my associates degree in Arts and plan on continuing my education and becoming either a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse. I've been babysitting for as long as I can remember. It started off with my younger brother and baby cousins then it became more serious when my niece was born January 7th 2008. My sister suffered from postpartum depression so I had to take over the motherly duties from the time my niece was released from the hospital. Needless to say I was afraid, because my niece Read more was so tiny, but I knew she depended on me so my motherly instincts kicked in quickly. For the first five months of her life I was there for her day and night. I learned how to feed her, change her diaper and how to decipher her different moods. Today my niece Aa'Niley is a healthy, happy, energetic 4 year old. My sister recovered from her depression and is now focused on being the best mom she can be. Being in that situation taught me a lot about new born babies and thats why I aspire to become a nurse one day. In the meantime I love babysitting! I gained a lot of experience babysitting neighborhood children while their parents were away at work. It was kind of like an after school program for the kids, but just a lot more fun! We would do activities together, work on home work and I would fix them small meals if needed. I also have experience working with teens as well. I was a Kids counselor at the West Palm Beach Public Library and worked with children of all ages at Jump N Slide Party & Play where I was a party hostess. I even worked as a camp counselor for Our Kids World spring and summer 2009 and 2010! I believe that if you can make a positive impact on one child's life it can last a lifetime. Healthy eating and academic activities are also important to me when it comes to baby sitting. You know what they say, "you are what you eat!" My nieces favorite snack is apples! I'm not really big on children watching TV all day and not participating in any physical activities. I believe it's not only important for kids to eat healthy, but to release all their energy during play time as well!
