I have been taking care of children for 12 years and I love it. I have taken care of children of all ages, including infants. Most of my recent experience is with children too young for daycare. I babysat for many of my professors on campus (including, at one point, the entire math department) and I have a ton of glowing references from them. I have lived in both the arctic and the antarctic, and had to undergo rigorous safety training in both places, so safety is a priority. I also learned CPR and wilderness first aid there. I am particularly interested in taking care of infants. I have a lot of experience with them so I am quite familiar with their care. I am good at swaddling, feeding, and maintaining schedules. I have taken care of a colicky baby before and I do not get overwhelmed or anxious if Read more there is a lot of crying. I am particularly good with babies. I am happy to get down on the floor and play imagination games, or go for walks in search of Big Trucks for a toddler's delight. I am very good at remembering allergies. I can lifeguard. I sing children to sleep, often. I am particularly good at bedtime and naptime, and at one point I was the only person who could get a particular two year old to take a nap (unfairly, these things are often easier for caregivers than for parents. Go figure.) I never yell. The only time I ever raise my voice is when I am scared for the child's safety. I discipline either with a quick time out, or, for older children, writing lines. These are usually humorous - "I will not paint my brother...Lunchtime is no time for acrobatics." Honestly, though, I find very little need for discipline once the children are through with testing me. I spent far more time giving positive reinforcement than disciplining. I have never, ever, found a child that I could not work with - and I have definitely worked with some troublemakers. And I love them all. My mother is a learning specialist, and as a result I am pretty good at helping out with homework and teaching skills. My mother is often my go to person for advice about children. I also have experience with special needs children, and I was once a social skills counselor for children with high functioning autism. Many of those skills have helped me with non special needs children and I have become a better babysitter as a result. I have no problem with nanny cams.
