Hi! I've been babysitting since I was in middle school. I still remember how excited I was to take my "Babysitter Training Course" offered through my community education summer school years ago. Get paid to play with kids and keep them safe and happy? Amazing! My mom was an elementary school teacher, so I had a booming business with all of her connections! I worked in a daycare for a health center before going off to college and took care of a wide range of ages. There could be multiple kids in the room at the same time - anywhere from infant-age to 10-year-old or older. This was a great experience in multitasking (!) while making sure all children (many of whom were in a new environment and meeting other kids for the first time) felt comfortable and safe. In college, I lived in a neighborhood in St. Paul, MN Read more with many families, and business continued to grow! I made wonderful connections with several families (some of which I had regular "nannying" schedules with during the school year). I babysat consistently throughout college for a family with a 2-year-old girl and a (very busy!) 7-year-old boy. This was a great experience in navigating the difficulties of the "terrible twos" with the wildness of a 1st grader. It was a blast with the occasional (but inevitable) meltdown that was always turned around by a walk to the park or a game of "go fish". Most recently, I relocated to Brooklyn from Minneapolis, I left behind a great nannying/babysitting family with two wonderful girls (ages 5 and 8). We had so much fun together making crafts, baking, and playing games. I developed a really good relationship with the entire family, and I have been hoping to find that here in NYC, too.
