I have been working as a caregiver since I was twelve years old, and even before that I was always the one at family gatherings who chose to look after the littles, obsessively carrying the babies around, insisting to be the overseer of the Kids' Table. Working with kids has been a hugely fulfilling part of my life, one that has provided me with irreplaceable insights and experiences, not to mention vast amounts of joy and comedy. EXPERIENCE IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College in 2012, I started working as a full-time nanny for a family in Prospect Heights, immediately falling in love not only with my two young charges (both girls, ages 2 and 4 when I started) but with the family unit as a whole. My duties included picking both girls up from different schools, assisting with and managing homework, preparing dinner, and Read more putting them to bed 3-4 nights per week. Occasionally there would be a doctor's appointment of specific task to accomplish, but aside from the basics, the rest of the day was our own. While I am quite versed in the ways of managing schedules, it is the down time that I enjoy the most. It is the time spent creating craft projects and making gigantic forts and writing Haikus and going on adventures that I look forward to the most. I worked for this family in Prospect Heights for three years in Brooklyn, at which point they asked if I would move cross country with them to Chicago for a year, which I happily and excitedly did. I continued as a live-in nanny for the next year, before moving back to Maine to spend time with my family. While in Maine I babysat for a little 2 year old girl, who was soon joined by a new baby brother. I continued with them for a year and half, before returning to New York in September of this year. While I am pretty strict (it has often been noted by parents that I am more strict than they are!) I am strict in a loving, predictable and reliable way, and thus, children have rarely, if ever, described me as anything but fun. I am also a silly goof ball with a mind for making things like dress-ups and and yarn wigs. I have experience working with both boys and girls of all ages, kids on The Spectrum, infants, and larger groups of children in a school setting. I am eco-minded and have experience with cloth diapers and organic nutrition. I am happy to cook/prepare meals, as well as do grocery shopping if necessary. I am clean and tidy, and will always leave the space picked up.
