Since I've been a little girl, children have been a big part of my life! As a big sister of two younger siblings, it was a joy to play, care for them and take part in their growth and development. My love for children made me pursue jobs as a nanny while I studied at Cheyney University to become an Elementary Education teacher. In college, I took courses in psychology and child development, which helped me to get a better understanding about children. After graduating, I became a head teacher to three and four year olds. During my two years as a teacher, I utilized the skills I acquired as well as my creative skills to design and implement a yearly curriculum. I ensured that the children developed their fine and gross motor skills and learned to be independent with patience, love and positive reinforcement. In 2001, I became a Read more certified Child Protective Specialist for the Administration for Children's Services. I went through extensive training for six months and background checks. After I completed these requirements, I initiated investigations on reported child abuse and neglect cases within 24 to 48 hours after they were reported to the State Central Registrar. I worked for seven years, then decided to become a foster care worker until 2011. As a foster care worker, I monitored abused or neglected children in their foster care placements. While I worked for ten years in both positions, I had to ensure that the abused and neglected children remained safe in their homes by providing services or placed them in a safe environment. Throughout my employment, I received ongoing training to meet the needs of the family, but most of all the children. I maintained contact via e-mail, face to face and phone with the schools, doctors or any collateral accounts to address the children's needs. In addition, I conducted biweekly or monthly visits to their homes or foster homes, then documented the information in the State's database. I also provided reports to various family courts and testified for the children that were in foster care. Currently, I have been a stay at home mother for my three year old son since his birth. I prepare his meals and make sure that he continues to meet his developmental milestones. I also create weekly schedules, which helps him to develop his fine (arts & crafts) and gross (gymboree, library) motor skills. I hope that my background meets the needs of you and your family.
