I have been in the field of child care on and off for many years. I did a stint as a nanny for many different families in my garden apartment complex from 1992-1998 - with one family for two years and then another for three years and other part time child care for two to three other families in between. Decided to go back to working for a company in 1999 so I could have my health insurance paid for as that was a huge expense as time went on and premiums went higher and higher. Worked in foodservice sales (I am originally an English major who worked right out of college at a NYC P.R. firm from 1984 - 1992) until 2003 and then decided to try my hand at child care again in 2004. I worked for a lovely family in my building for six months until they Read more relocated to CA. After that, I was in demand by two local families and ended up working for one part time in the summer months and then got hired as a full time nanny to a child with special needs from the age of one year until three years old. Very challenging time with this young boy, but, it taught me that I have more patience than most. Went back to working in an office setting again in 2006, but started to work part time in the evenings for new families in my complex. In 2010 went to work at an insurance agency and was there for five years (until February 2015 when my position was phased out as an assistant to the agents was no longer necessary). During these five years, I did continual child care jobs in the evenings for many families with small children who wanted to go out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for a break! I became popular with a whole new set of parents after working in the complex with families since the early 1990's. I would like the chance to take care of a child (school age possibly) on a part time basis after school. My flexibility is in the late afternoon to the evening as I am currently helping with the care of my 91 year old mother during most days.
