Hello, Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me. When considering options for child care I know this can be a very scary process for parents given the risk involved. First and foremost I want you to know that I consider my relationship with parents to be like a team. Together we work towards a common goal and along the way I build on my partnership with both parent and child. A little bit about myself, I graduated from UB (major in Psychology and minor in Anthropology). While in college I worked at a group home for over 2 years with individuals with disabilities. I also worked as a research assistant on two separate projects at the UB Child and Adolescent Relationships Laboratory centered on friendship dynamics. After graduating, I began work at Job Corps which is a program ran by the US Department of labor for Read more at risk youth ages 16-23. The typical student read at a 7th grade reading level and had been kicked out or dropped out of school. I also participated in a program called Soccer for Success directed by the US Soccer Foundation and Independent Health which used soccer as a motivational tool for social change; specifically, to influence obesity outcomes in at risk populations. I also have experience working with behavior disorders as a counselor for an evidenced based summer treatment program (STP) for adolescents with ADD/ADHD. The program focused on parent training, stressing positive actions and responding in a non emotional/neutral way to disruptive behaviors. Lastly I have worked at as a volunteer at the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center (WNYCPC) observing victims of childhood trauma and mood disorders in academics and occupational therapy. Growing up on a farm, I am quite comfortable around all sorts of animals! In fact, if you have a pet and also need a pet sitter this could be easily arranged. I have worked in training dogs as a volunteer for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. As you can see, I have extensive experience working with children and the academic background to best serve your family. I have educational and practical experiences which help guide my interactions with children as far as what is developmentally appropriate or what their specific learning style might be. In addition if there are some behaviors you family is struggling with, I certainly feel confident to not only aid you in problem solving solutions but also activate the motivation in your child for change. I plan to attend Columbia in the fall.
